Are you ready to meet the superstar of air plants? Introducing Tillandsia 'Curly Slim'! This incredible low-maintenance hybrid is a magical blend between Tillandsia Intermedia and Tillandsia Streptophylla. This stunning ‘Curly Slim’ succulent got its name from its distinctive appearance of curly leaves and slim shape that can grow up to 6 inches tall and 3 inches wide.
Hailing from Central America, the curly slim air plant's upper leaves blush with a delicate pink hue while below them are tubular violet flowers that will make your heart skip a beat. These air plants required bright, indirect light as direct light can burn the leaves. These Tillandsia plants, however, are monocarpic, which means they die after flowering. But don't worry. Prior to this, they produce small 'pups' that can be separated from the mother plant and grown as new plants. Alternatively, snip off the flowering stalk as it emerges, and your air plant will continue to grow. Thanks to its intermedia genetics, some generations produce adorable little pups right on the bloom spike - it's like having an entire family tree in one plant!
Taking care of this enchanting creature is a breeze – simply spray or dunk it once a week and let it dry within 6-8 hours. Of course, every now and then curly air plant craves an extravagant soak to rehydrate for up to 4 hours; after all, even rockstars need their downtime!
Remember though - don't overwater this wild air plant or risk losing those fabulous curls (but be careful not to dehydrate too much either!). These epiphytic beauties prefer hanging out on trees instead of getting their hands dirty in soil – they're true rebels who absorb water and nutrients through their leaves from the surrounding atmosphere. These Tillandsia air plants can grow outdoors in USDA zones 10–11; outside of these zones, they can grow indoors.
